Giovanni Lami

Giovanni Lami is an Italian sound artist, musician and curator active since 2009, working across electroacoustic composition, live electronics and site-responsive listening. His early research centered on magnetic tape, resonant surfaces and the degradation of recording devices, treating controllable errors as a tool for composing through discovery. This later expanded into hybrid systems combining modular synthesis, field recordings, real-time processing and open-source devices.
Context is central to his practice; each performance responds to a space’s acoustics and social conditions, shifting pacing and proportion across settings.

Alongside his artistic practice, in 2016 he co-founded MU with Enrico Malatesta and Glauco Salvo. He is also part of the MAGMA collective and co-curates Elementi, a site-specific listening series developing performances in natural and unconventional environments such as salt pans, hangars, lagoons and remote outdoor locations. In 2023, he founded Manticora Editions with Carolina Martines.
