This project takes the everyday act of eating sunflower seeds as both a method and medium for exploring how collectives form and share information. Seeds, once cracked, leave their peels scattered across benches, bus stops, and courtyards, quiet traces of where conversations happened. It’s this movement that interests the project: the trajectory ideas travel before settling into shared beliefs, and the “peeling” of memory that brings older, unspoken stories to the surface.

During the residency, informal gatherings will form around small glasses of sunflower seeds, guided by simple prompts: What words have stayed with you? Whose words still live inside you? What did someone once say that you later caught yourself repeating? Through this rhythm of shelling and talking, the project questions inherited beliefs and myths, and opens space for new ways of thinking to take root.

Mădălina Ciocanu works with sound, education, ethnography, research, and and and… She re/searches transdisciplinarity at Columbia University and makes and mixes music under the secret stage name BORȘ. She plays around with sound, inquiring into the collectivity and materialism of “producing”-composing-creating, and hosted the workshop “Ciulește Urechile”, based on deep listening. Mădălina was born in Chișinău and has spent the past 15 years in the Americas, with a recent comeback in this hemisphere. Her ethical focus is on dialogical pluriversality.
