SEMI SILENT: 10 Years

Following the thread of an idea, or, rather, of a possibility. This is how SEMI SILENT began its journey ten years ago, as if on a walk along a new river, but one carrying familiar waters. Streams joined along the way, sometimes becoming turbulent currents that changed our course; strands of the river set off toward other valleys, while some eventually reached the sea.
HER VOICE, SONIC FUTURE RESIDENCIES, POLYPHONIC ECHOES and REMARKABLE VOICES are contexts for the research and creation of dozens of sound and radio works that contribute to a local sonic imaginary, while being articulated internationally. Alongside its own projects, SEMI SILENT has contributed to the development of major collaborative projects such as RIVERSSSOUNDS, NARAȚIUNI SONORE and ORIZONT SONOR, together with local and regional partners, as well as to a series of international co-productions. SEMI SILENT is currently a partner in the European project SOUND STEPS.
Anamaria Pravicencu, curator of the SEMI SILENT portfolio, proposes a listening session featuring sound works that have marked the meanders of its first ten years, choosing the voice and the sonic qualities of speech as its guiding thread—the theme of the anniversary project REMARKABLE VOICES—as well as an invitation towards sonic and semantic chorality.
