Australopitecus Oltensis
— Live performance
Saturday, 26 Sept 21:00 / MX

Australopitecus Oltensis is one of the low-oscillating entities pulsating since the beginning of Future Nuggets. Displaying in its rare discographic, sonic and physical apparitions a primitive and proto-ritualic approach to sound. Dealing strictly with electricity and the ancestral delay of Oltenia, this paleo-hominid is concerned with primitive techno, unsophisticated dub, untraceable melancholia and cave reverb.
Ion Dumitrescu was formerly a ballet dancer and principal soloist with the Bucharest National Opera. From there, his practice shifted into contemporary dance, where in 2008 he co-initiated Postspectacol, a framework for performance and experimentation. Within this context, he co-launched Candidatura la Președinție (Candidacy for the Presidency), an electoral campaign format disguised as a performance — or perhaps the other way around.
He develops conceptual tools for cultural transgression and for navigating the contemporary world. He occasionally writes speculative-philosophical texts on aesthetics, art, cultural anthropology and other prehistoric phenomena of the present.
In 2011, he co-founded Future Nuggets, which he continues to coordinate. As a music producer, he works under several identities, including Utopus, Ion din Dorobanți and Departamentul Zero. Together with Cosima Opârtan, he initiated the project Raze de Soare in 2014.
