To mark two decades of activity, the book SIMULTAN 20: In the Past and into the Future brings together for the first time, in a comprehensive publication, the history and critical reflections generated around the SIMULTAN Festival. Conceived as an effort of archiving, contextualization, and research, the book traces the festival's evolution from its founding (2005) to the present, reconstructing in a narrative perspective the activities, projects, and transformations that have defined its trajectory.
At the same time, the volume explores and analyzes the specificity of a platform dedicated to video art, new media, and experimental music, through a series of essays and interviews with artists, researchers, curators, and collaborators of the festival. Beyond the history of its own program, SIMULTAN 20 traces the transformations of the cultural infrastructure and the Timișoara art scene, placing the festival's evolution within a broader artistic context, marked by technological, social, and institutional change and by constant dialogue with the international scene.
